Registry Cleaners, What's All The Fuss About?

Will your computer really run better if you would occasionally use a good registry cleaner? Could it really prevent crashes, blue screens and slow start-ups?

For the ones that don't know, let's define what the registry is and what it does. The registry is a database in which windows keeps track of the relation between software and hardware. It contains settings for your operating system, software, hardware, users and other preferences.

Long time ago, before Windows 95, each software package had it's own files to store these kind of configuration settings. That's why these files were usually scattered all over the place which made it much harder to keep track of. The new registry centralises all that information but has it's own problems. If this registry gets damaged, windows could become unbootable and in some cases this means reinstalling.

It is common for windows, especially the older generations that these registries grow larger over time which slows down your computer's start-up and it could even make your system unstable. Even with the newer generations of windows you could have a lot of necessary entries while installing and removing other programs. There are registry entries that could even confuse the system this way causing delays. So, in general you can say that keeping your registry clean is going to keep your computer more stable and faster...
